*Award Winning Project
Schooner America project was one of the most enjoyable documentaries I've worked on in my career. Having total creative control was more than any producer could ask for. The men and woman who serve on this great sailboat are some of the nicest people I ever met. My student interns and crew were struck by it as well. The half-hour documentary aired on WTVJ-NBC6, Miami in July of 1997 and won the Creative Excellence Award at the U.S. International Film and Video Festival in Chicago in June of 1997*. The video features original music by artists Michael Kowal and Russ Ben-Ezzer, interviews with the owner, Mr. Ray Giovannoni, the captain and crew.

Any time a client presents you with a job that involves going out into the wilderness and watching the sunrise, you know it can't be too bad. My assistant and I spent many days just pointing the camera at the beauty which nature presented us.
The actual location was about one hundred yards from civilization on a 350 acre wetlands rehabilitation site in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
These stills are from video frame capture from the original project. I used a paint program to enhance and reduce the images.

: (music video)
This project was produced in conjunction with the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale as a student involvement project. It gave 25 select students an invaluable hands-on experience for the course of the 4-day shoot. The project covered eight locations and included electric generators for outdoor lighting needs, RV's for talent, makeup, wardrobe and lighting technicians, a grip truck, crane and helicopter shooting, and Steadycam.
The video won a Gold Award for at Worldfest in Houston in 1998 for New Artist Release.
The students agreed it was the highlight of their education.

Shooting Models:
As a video instructor at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, I try to keep the students versed in different challenges to lighting and composition.
On this field trip shoot, we went to an abandoned zoo and just shot the new inhabitants.
The students had a lot of fun on this one and the natives were friendly.
